Botox(R) has been around a long time, so long in fact that it has become a household word, much like the word Kleenex is used to mean tissues or Clorox is used to mean bleach. But as with all great products, competition steps in and creates a comparable product. Such is the case with Xeomin (pronounced ZEE-o-min). Although it has only been recenty approved by the FDA for use in the U.S. (2011), the fact is Xeomin has been used in 19 European countries since 2005.  In the U.S., it's still the new kid on the wrinkle-busting block. For those considering injections to soften those forehead wrinkles or crow's feet, the common questions are: Does Xeomin work as well as Botox? Are the two products the same?

At LivingYoung we have been offering Xeomin as an alternative to Botox for more than a year.  Xeomin is manufactured by Merz Aesthetics, a familiar name in the business of staying young. We have had great success over the years with Merz's Radiesse, a dermal filler prized for its collagen-stimulating benefits. We expected their Xeomin to be of similar quality, and it was!  Our satisfaction with Xeomin has been bolstered by feedback from our Xeomin clients. Many of these former Botox users have switched to Xeomin because they claim that Xeomin "works in" faster than Botox. And many clients are reporting that the results seem to last longer than Botox ... some up to 6 months.

So is there a difference between Botox and Xeomin?
Botox® and Xeomin have much in common. They both do an equally great job in relaxing the muscles that create wrinkles. The chief difference between them is in their chemical composition. Xeomin is “naked” … that is, it is made without additives, whereas Botox is compounded with various protein molecules. Having no additives, Xeomin may lessen a client’s likelihood of developing antibodies. When the body senses a foreign invader, it responds by creating antibodies and launching an attack. If this were to occur with a neurotoxin such as botulinum toxin type A, the desired effects may not be produced. So in that sense, Xeomin has an advantage over Botox. Otherwise, Xeomin is quite comparable to Botox. It is mixed and measured in the same units as Botox, injection methods are the same and the results are comparable.

Do they cost the same?
Both products cost the same: $9.99 per unit here at LivingYoung. The good news is we occasionally receive incentives from Merz which we pass on to you in the form of very special pricing on Xeomin. Look for these specials on our "Specials and Events" page which is updated every month.
