Using PRP for Rejuvenating Skin

PRP for skin rejuvenation is an exciting new treatment for rejuvenating the skin that utilizes your own body’s reparative cells to increase all the benefits associated with a regular microneedling treatment. If you are familiar with microneedling, you already know that microneedling:

  • Stimulates the production of collagen
  • Improves fine lines and deeper wrinkles
  • Reduces acne scars
  • Softens stretch marks
  • Evens skin tone
  • Lightens hyperpigmentation and sun spots
  • Reduces appearance of pores
  • Firms and smooths skin texture
  • Heals scars
  • Reduces broken capillaries and spider veins
  • Brings back the glow for fresher, younger-looking skin

Now imagine even greater improvements when you let the healing properties of your own blood work their magic. PRP may also be injected directly into problem areas of the skin.

What is PRP?

PRP is platelet-rich plasma that contains highly concentrated amounts of natural growth factors, stem cells and other cytokines that promote the regeneration process of soft tissues. It is obtained by centrifuging a vial of your own blood at very high speeds. The resulting plasma layer is then applied to your skin before and after the microneedling treatment to maximize penetration. The procedure itself involves using a specialized micropen with precisely spaced micro-needles to create invisible vertical micro-perforations in the epidermis and the top layer of the dermis. (A numbing cream minimizes any discomfort during this process.) As a result of these micro injuries, the skin shifts its natural repair mechanism into high gear and starts producing collagen and elastin to repair these micro-perforations.  At the same, these micro-perforations allow for deep penetration of PRP with all its healing properties. The result is a 100% natural form of skin renewal from the inside out.

The treatment takes about an hour, with little downtime (any redness will disappear within a day or two). After treatment, you’ll notice an immediate “glow” to your skin and it will continue to improve over the next few weeks. The full results can be seen up to 6 months post treatment as collagen production continues. For best results, we recommend a series of at least 4 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. After that, a yearly maintenance treatment should be sufficient to maintain the results you desire.

PRP use in skin rejuvenation is a relatively recent application, although the healing properties of PRP have been used for years in orthopedic medicine and dentistry.   In addition to PRP MicroNeedling, our specialists at  LivingYoung Center has years of experience using PRP for Hair Restoration.
