What is IPL Photofacial?

IPL Photofacial is a non-invasive technique that uses intense pulsed light to penetrate the skin’s layers. This full-spectrum light is delivered through a specialized laser device called Palomar StarLux to target and “heat up” pigment. The light energy is absorbed by the pigment, causing those cells to break up and dissolve. Meanwhile, IPL Photofacial also stimulates natural collagen production within your body.

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, which destroys sun-damaged cells that cause age (or brown) spots. IPL also reduces the appearance of rosacea, acne, and acne scars. An added side benefit of an IPL Photofacial treatment is that it stimulates collagen production, the foundation upon which supple, beautiful skin is built. An IPL Photofacial in St. Petersburg, Palm Harber, or Seminole can make your skin look smoother, tighter, and more youthful.

IPL Photofacial: Treatment Overview

Your IPL Photofacial in St. Petersburg, Palm Harber, or Seminole is a simple, non-invasive, in-office treatment that takes less than 30 minutes and is performed by our certified laser technician while you lie comfortably. Our cosmetic provider will calibrate the Palomar StarLux laser device according to your unique needs and goals — different wavelengths are suitable for different concerns. Finally, the laser device will be moved over the treatment areas to deliver the appropriate wavelengths of light energy into your skin. The good news is, the treatment doesn’t hurt any worse than a light rubber band snap.

IPL Photofacial: Recovery & Aftercare

IPL Photofacial doesn’t involve any downtime — you may resume your normal daily routine immediately. The treatment will make your skin more photo-sensitive than usual, so avoid sun exposure, use an SPF30 sunblock daily, and cover the treated area with protective clothing, especially the first week after treatment. Remember, IPL will remove the sun-caused skin problems you already have, but after treatment, careless exposure to the sun will lead to new spots, so you must always wear sunscreen!

IPL Photofacial: Results & Longevity

When the pigments targeted by the IPL are brown spots, sun spots, or liver spots, they become darker at first. After about 7 to 10 days, these rise to the skin’s surface and flake off. When the pigment targeted by the IPL is a capillary or small vein, the IPL heats the vein and coagulates the small amount of blood within. Treated veins or capillaries may become more red or gray for a few days, then fade from view in 7 to 10 days.

The results of your IPL Photofacial in St. Petersburg, Palm Harber, and Seminole are permanent, but they gradually improve over several weeks and treatments. Typically, three treatments are recommended for the best results, but every single treatment stimulates collagen and improves your overall skin tone (reducing brown spots, broken capillaries, etc.) Our cosmetic providers will carefully examine your skin, discuss your goals, and recommend the ideal frequency of IPL treatments for optimal results.

IPL Photofacial: Cost

Because we recommend 3 treatments for optimal results, we offer a 20% savings on a prepaid package of 3 treatments. These treatments may be spaced approximately 6 weeks apart. Because IPL Photofacial is such an effective treatment, we often run specials so that more people can take advantage of the dramatic improvements it makes.
